School and Classroom Policies

Homework- The homework pack will be brought home on Monday.   The completed pack needs to be returned to school by your child  on Friday morning.    Please check all parts, and have your child make corrections before Friday.   (If your child is absent on Friday, the homework pack is due the first day they return to school.)  The homework is graded for completion.  Ten points will be deducted from the grade for each day it is late.  The homework grade average will be added to the gradebook at the end of the grading period for each subject area. If homework is completed but turned in unsigned, it will be returned for your signature to be turned in on Monday. Having no signature counts off 5 points.

Homework Challenge:
***To increase rigor at home, have your child come up with words that fit the week's pattern, but have multiple syllables/prefixes/suffixes/endings; etc. They could write stories/sentences using the new words as extra practice. Word study is understanding a pattern exists and then extending the pattern to new, unknown words the student might read within text.

Absent Make up work-  If your child is absent, check the homework pocket of their PAWS.  The work should be completed and returned in the same number of days that they were absent.  If your child was absent one day, the make up work is due one day after they return.  It is school policy that makeup work is not given in advance of an absence.

Any checks turned into school MUST include a driver's license number and Date of Birth.  Your check will be returned if this information is missing.  This is a district requirement and the bank will not accept any checks without this information.

Lunch information:
Please know we (second grade teachers) encourage and welcome visitors at Galatas. When visiting during lunch, please understand it is a priority for our students to sit down.  Parents are asked to stand behind their child if the table becomes too crowded.

Birthday treats need to be something easily passed out like cookies, cupcakes, or brownies. Treats are passed out at lunch in the cafeteria.  We have 20 kids in our class.  Treats may only be passed out to our class, not to best friends in another class.  Treats must be store-bought due to allergies and precut.  Parents, please get gloves from the cafeteria to wear.
**Please pass out birthday treats in the cafeteria during the lunch period.

School Policy states that birthday invitations cannot be passed out at school.  Please use the directory for student information.  Teachers are not allowed to send home personal information.
